Samarkand
With its centuries-old history and outstanding scholarly heritage, Samarkand stands as a cradle of knowledge and civilization, embodying a distinguished synthesis of theoretical and applied sciences. In recognition of this exceptional legacy, the celebration of Samarkand as Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2025 was officially launched on 26 May 2025 in a major ceremony organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the ICESCO, within the framework of the Organization’s Programme of Culture Capitals in the Islamic World.
